My practice primarily revolves around using craft mediums as a platform for bold, colorful, and unapologetic commentary on Queer American history and culture. Initially entering undergrad as an Art History major, my artistic practice has a deep connection to research and exists in a context informed by the past curated through my lens. As a fiber artist, I follow in the footsteps of generations that used cloth both on and off the body and continue in this lineage by producing both garments and tapestries which take the form of weaving, beading, and other techniques that build a pliable plane. Growing up in New York my adolescence was a fantastical period in my life where I used the city and the beach as my playground. In Amagansett, I found solace by the ocean and did the same with the East River on the subway ride home in the city. Through their variety, I found myself exposed to the dynamic composition of liberated identities in surreal settings. Reflecting on home, my work explores the dynamic settings I found myself in and builds on this distinctive nostalgia. Through my research practice, I have discovered important histories that through my work I display as pertinent moments in discovering my own identity. Through their reintroduction, my portfolio is becoming an archive of meaningful events, motifs, and feelings ultimately culminating in a narrative that tells my lived experience.
