Artist Statment

Growing up between Brooklyn and Amagansett, the landscapes I call home are constantly transforming.  In Amagansett, the sounds of waves crashing are overshadowed by the sounds of houses being demolished. In Brooklyn, a hunter-green wave is washing over the city in the form of scaffolding that signal change is coming. In these construction sites, I found the unique shapes, coded messages, and mixed emotions incredibly stimulating. Simple worksites like fixing a pothole in the road suddenly become active spaces enriched by neon colors. These spaces disrupt and redirect traffic, changing the way we interact with our neighborhood. They often sound like jackhammers, car horns, and catcalling, they smell like hot asphalt, spray paint, and freshly cut wood. Currently, my work is an exploration of the unique compositions found inside a changing landscape.
