My line Stepping Out of the Limelight takes inspiration from the bustling city at night specifically around queer clubs. Emblazed with symbols of fake ids, club promotion flyers, and advertisements, this collection playfully uses nightlife as the unifying factor for a community. When I turned 21 I didn’t want to dispose of my fake id since growing up fake ids felt like a right of passage and a gateway to freedom and self-liberation. Building on the nostalgia these objects gave me, my line draws back to pre-pandemic days when a sense of community was built in public spaces. In Stepping Out of the Limelight I hope to capture the playful, sexy, and enigmatic spirit of this community I found myself within.
